we have a very old house, and are trying to decorate the ceilings, but some of the ceilings are plaster lath ans the lime wash is flaking badly, do we try to remove this, if so how, or are we better artexing the ceiling. The stains shows through normal paint, is there anything we can buy that would help with this problem. |

The flacky stuff you can remove with a flat bladed stripper knife.
Wash the ceiling with a sponge and sugar soap, available from your local B&Q or similar.
You can get stuff to seal the ceiling prior to painting and I can't for the life of me think what it's called, so ask in the shop, If I see my mate the decorator I shall ask and post it for you.
Another alternative if the ceiling is bad is to paper it, however I can still remember my first attempt at that with Dad and three brothers, all standing on chairs while the old man tried to get it to stay, it's easy now I know how and was fun ( I think ) and very entertaining.
Shall try your other question in a min.
