Currently going round the house preparing it to get the plasterers in, and have a couple of queries.
1 - can you plaster over paint? Have a few walls and ceilings in the house where paint is very well stuck on and wondering if it has to be removed or not?
2 - can you plaster over tiles? Have big window sill tiles and they go under the window frames, rather than remove them i have chiselled the noses off, can they be plastered over for smooth sills or do they need removing first.
3 - have a stud wall which is papered and painted over the plasterboard, does not wanna peel off at all. Can you plaster over this surface or does it need stripping first?
Thanks, Jamie. |

1 - Yes you can plaster over painted walls scratch with a scraper and then seal the wall with PVA and then do a two coat skim.
2 - you could but i would not recomend this as you could encouter problems and then you would just have to remove them anyway. i would say no as a rule
3 - it would need stripping as the paper would get wet and peal as the plaster drys. if it is a stud wall the easiest way is to remove the old board and replace with new, this is much quicker, its cheap and you'll have a perfect wall for plastering. Plus trying to remove paper you find you take the paper of the board aswell not good!
Hope this help you out |
