Hi - quick question if anyone's about to answer.
I have a 9.5kw electric shower, which is currently connected up using 6mm cable. I have an electrician coming soon to do some work (including installing RCD protection) as I need a power source for a panel heater in the bathroom, which I'm currently doing up.
I'm moving the shower to a new location and he mentioned something about the supplementary bonding to the shower not being sufficient. Can someone explain what he means as I like to understand things even though I'm going to let him take care of it!
Thanks
Anthony |

He is talking about the earth bonding(connections) between all metal parts in the bathroom, like hot and cold pipes should be linked to the earth terminal of the lighting circuit and shower supply also any radiators in the bathroom.
While I am here, the 6mm cable you have got feeding a 9.5Kw shower is under sized and should be a 10mm. |

| Thanks. So the cold water pipe feeding the shower will be bonded to the consumer unit earth. Am pretty sure the pipes are all bonded already, so perhaps he was just talking about upgrading the wiring to 10mm. |

You will need to link the earths of ALL circuits within the bathroom, lights, shower, panel heater etc to the hot and cold pipes and any heating pipes.
