Our local college does courses so you could ask them.

To be quite honest its pretty basic stuff and just needs patience and common sense

Once you have a nice surface to work on, tack a batten straight edge on the wall and work up.

You can quite easily draw a wall out using graph paper, calling each square a tile, that way you can get the whole wall on paper top to bottom and end to end.

Hi Scruff
thanks for the reply
when i have tiled kithens in the past i didn't use a batten i just made sure the worktop was level and used that starting from the centre and working outwards i presume thats ok?? while on the subject of tiling my friend has had 50sqm of pamments tiles laid(terracotta stone) but the tiler used a sharpsand mix and it looked rubbish and you could hoover it out Rolling Eyes
I have since replaced all of this with proper grout but in the utility room the tiles just came up once the old grout came out ?
can you recommend a good adhesive to lay these stone tiles, the floor has already got old tiles on it but not ceramic, the house was built in the 1700
thanks scruff

I used "Palace" rapid set for my floor tiles and the matching grout which was an dark grey colour.

It the work top was level then you can start from that edge, starting from the center is the best way so you have equal cuts either end

What tiles are already down as its best to cover the area with a floor leveling compound, ( ask in your tile shop) what they have.

not really 100% what they are definitely not ceramic they are a red/brown matt colour Question the tiler had put five blobs on the back of the tile then put them on the floor but they sounded hollow hence why they lifted i guess. i thought it would be a good idea to comb the floor with the adhesive then put them down? but i suppose if i use a levelling first it shouldn't matter should it

regards chris

You should always comb floor tiles or they will crack as soon as you drop something heavy on them
