I WANT TO REPLACE OUR ELECTRIC SHOWER, AND WANT TO PUT AN RCD IN THE CIRCUIT. UNFORTUNATELY I CANNOT EASILY GET AT THE CABLES, TO INSERT THE RCD IN THE CIRCUIT. THE CONSUMER UNIT IS THE OLDER WYLEX WITH PULL OUT FUSES. CAN I USE ONE OF THE UNUSED FUSE POSITIONS IN THE CU TO ACT AS A JUNCTION BOX.
IN OTHER WORDS THE SHOWER CABLE WOULD REMAIN CONNECTED TO THE CU AT THE FUSE POSITION IT IS IN NOW, BUT THE ACTUAL FUSE REMOVED. CABLE WOULD BE CONNECTED TO THAT FUSE POSITION AND GO TO THE RCD. THEN RETURN TO ANOTHER FUSE POSITION, WITH THE 45AMP FUSE PUT IN. IS THERE A COVER AVAILABLE TO COVER THE FUSE POSITION USED AS A JUNCTION BOX ?. WOULD IT NEED TO BE COVERED ?. AS THERE IS AN OUTER COVER WHICH GOES OVER ALL THE FUSES. I WOULD INSERT A 30ma RCD AND USE 10mm CABLE. THE SHOWER IS 8.5KW

Firstly please take the caps lock off, it is considered shouting.
You will not get 2 10mm in a wylex terminal to start with.
The only other way I can think of is to take the feed from a 40a type 2 mcb fitted to the fuse board to the RCD. Then return from the RCD to the shower cable via throu crimps inside the fuseboard enclosure.
