I work 12hr shifts. Am I right in saying there should be a minimum 11hr rest before going back onto shift. I have been told to attend a meeting at 17:00hrs which means I will have only a 10 1/2 hour turn round. My shift normally starts at 18:30. This means apart from a short turn round I shall be working 13 1/2 hr shift. Is this right? I do not consider it fair.

Depends what is in your contract and the type of work.

Personally if you get paid for it and it's not regular I cannot see the problem. You do what has to be done and hope someone appreciates it.

Our guys work unsociable hours, they have to lodge away from home etc etc, and at the end of the day they get well rewarded

I am late knocking off virtually every dam night (manager) I still have guys working on site, and the Bossman is still sat at his desk long after I get out the door.
