|

The main stack has started to leak were the kitchen sink, washing machine and dishwasher waste enters it.When my new kitchen was installed 18 months ago I snagged the work the plumber had done in this area.He had pushed a peace of waste pipe into the strap boss and sealed around with clear silicon. When I complained he said it was a unique fitted and this was the best he could do.My house was built in the 60's so would it be unique or just an imperial fitted?I have been told that the waste pipe is solvent weld and not push or compression as it should be.
Is solvent weld pipe a different external diameter?
If I take out the leaking pipe can I repair the seal in the main drain stake boss if it is pulled out with all that silicon?
What type of pipe should I refit? |

Its all standard stuff.
If the boss is leaking where it joins the stack then clean the silicon off and solvent weld it back, any small leaks around the joint can be sealed with gap cement made for that purposs.
Make sure everthing is dry and claen.

Sorry you have misunderstood me.Anyway on further investigation the actual boss that is fitted has a 'O` ring fitted & an internal diameter of 50 mm or 2 inches.A 40 mm pipe was fitted to this and bunged up with silicon hence the leak.I have struggled to get an adapter to reduce this 50 mm boss down to 40 mm.I have been told all manufacture have different sizes. |

Two for the price of one.
Just a thought on most soil fitting you need a boss adapter to the size of pipe required.
When the silicon is removed is there a grove or two inside the socket, on the terrain fittings the adapter fit over the outside.
Lets know the make.

If only life was that simple the soil drain goes down the inside of my house and is in the corner of my kitchen cupboard.I have taken a picture of the offending article and will send you a copy.At the moment I have done a temporary repair you won't believe this but I bought a new boss and the end fitting when sawn off the strap fitted the 50 mm boss on the drain stack. In effect it's a make shift reducer from 50 mm to 40 mm but if you can guide me to the proper thing for the job that would be great. |

Sorry for the delay in rplying but it has taken ages for Osma to reply to my emails
These are the two emails I have had from Osma:-
We manufacture four different waste systems - OsmaWeld, MUPVC, ClearBore
and BS5254
OsmaWeld, ClearBore and MUPVC are all made to BS5255 these waste systems
are all the same sizes. The BS5254 range is the only system we make to this
standard and is slightly smaller.
These standards have not changed so we will be able to find a waste system
compatible with your existing drainage
Does the boss have a slight grove in the top?
Is the boss strapped and welded to stack?
If it is our strap on boss you will need to solvent weld an adaptor into
the boss depending in what size waste pipe you want to connect. 2S.298
(32mm), 2S.399 (40mm), 2S.402 (50mm)
The adaptor will fit plastic pipes manufactured to BS5255. BS5254 and
copper pipe to BS659 and BS2871.
Please be aware if you are connecting more that one appliance to a waste
run the pipe must be at least 50mm.
Please contact me so we can discus which fittings you will need to use.
Regards
This is email two after I sent the picture if the boss:-
The boss connection on your stack is not a OSMA fitting and I don't
recognise the grey fitting glued into that.
Is there another manufacturers name on the stack? Or a BS number on the
fitting? This will help to identify which pipe will connect to it.
Could you not connect directly to the original stack boss?
It may be easier for you to contact me on the phone so we can discuss the
installation. 01249 766 346
So were do I go from here |
