Hi,
the people in the flat above me have recently flooded their kitchen. The water has come through my ceiling and has got into the light fitting. Although the light was initially buzzing and fizzing, it has now stopped. I have not tried to turn the light on since this happened (2 two nights ago), but my neighbour claims it will 'dry out' and that it should be ok. I am highly sceptical. Is he right? And if not, do I need to call an electrician immediately?

All advice much appreciated.

One has to think they will be paying for the water damage, and possibly claiming from their insurance.

Safety first is the logical answer, you could get a shock or start a fire or blow a fuse, so get it checked and tell your neighbour you expect him to foot the bills.

Might be worth a mention to your insurers as well, in case they want to see the damage.

Your neighbour is right it will almost certainly dry out and leave no lasting problem BUT almost certainly is NOT definitly.

My advise would be the same as thescruff get it checked to be 100% certain.
