Our bathtub in our upstairs bathroom has a leak that shows up by coming through the ceiling in the garage. I replaced the stem in the Moen one stem valve. That didn't correct the problem, so I ran the water for quite a while into a storage container. There was no leaking when I did that. Then I filled the bathtub with the Watco stopper closed. After just a couple of minutes the water started coming through the ceiling in the garage again. I took the stopper out and changed the length of the stopper form 0.75 to 2 on its scale and filled the tub again. Again it leaked. The tub is about 10 years old. Any suggestions? Should I just replace the stopper?

| replace the tub spud aka stopper. use putty when install the new one. it sounds like the old putty is brittle and cracked. this will cause it to leak then you fill the tub. Home depot has a tool to remove the tub spud. or try using 2 screw drivers on the cross pattern inside the spud. |
