I have a problem starting my petrol lawn mower. The pull cord doesn't "engage" over the full stroke of the pull cord - probably only on the last third. For the first 2/3 of the stroke it just pulls freely, with no resistnace. The cord is also slow to recoil. I can get the mower to start eventually, but it does take some time.

Any ideas what is causing this? Is this something that a DIYer can fix or do I have to take it to a specialist (who would probably laugh at me as it's an old Homebase own brand model Embarassed )

Thanks for your help
