|
|
Please help. We have just moved into our new house after spending nearly 50k on rebuilding it. Since the first night that we stayed over, we have been hearing a mid-pitched humming tone/sound concentrated around the two bathrooms but in truth it is quite hard to tell which room in the house the sound is originating from.
Now this is the weird thing. It NEVER EVER happens during the day (I would assume because water is being used throughout the day or perhaps because it is colder at night?). It starts occuring around 10-11pm and is intermittent throughout the whole night and stops occuring around 6am. Each episode lasts between 2-5 minutes.
So the symptoms are:
Mid-pitched humming (Not loud in anyway but nonetheless irritating and a sleep killer)
Occurs in the late evening throughout the night on/off
Hard to tell exact room source
Thanks muchly |

It could be a float valve making the noise.
Try turning the main stop cock off when it next occurs and see if that stops it.
It will then be a case of turning on the stop cock, but turning off the water to each float valve in turn to see which one is causing the problem.
The sound will travel through the pipes - so it does not always appear to be linked with a particular valve. |
