Is it true that you now need to inform the council building regs if you are planning to replace a window?

Thanks

Hello Vince.... no the building is not listed it is a detatched house on an estate, approx 40 years old.... the reason for my question is that we are thinking of replacing a window that was installed in an extension, built about 20 years ago, before we owned the house, with a window about 300mm wider.... the lintels are already in place to enable this, but I read somewhere on the net that all window replacements now needed to be refered to the council for building regs unless the company installing them was registered with FENSA. I wasnt sure whether this was an actual legal requirement or whether FENSA were wording their advise to make it appear that you more or less had to used a company from within their scheme

Not to sure on that one, the only answer is a quick call to the local building control dept and ask. You dont have to give your name and address if you don't want to.
