We live in an old terrace (1899) every time the neighbours light their coal fire our living room wall behind their fire, heats up to quite a degree, almost radiator level and some smoke and fumes enter our living room from under the skirting. How serious is this? do they simply need to reline part of their chimney?

Good question bifrost.

I have exactly the same problem with my neighbours chimney.

What to do, I havn't figure out yet but he will have to do something as it gets quite bad some days.

Knock down and rebuild, reline ? could be expensive from his point of view.

For now get a CM detector fitted somewhere handy to the area as it could be dangerous.
