Hello,
I want to connect my generator to my home circuits. If I purchase one of those connection kits, they only allow me to energize certain circuits, and requires a lot of rewiring (right?)
Why can't I go to each appliance and splice in a 2-way switch? I could connect one leg to the house service and one leg to the generator. This way, I could go to each appliance during an outage and flip the switch to the generator side.
Why wouldn't this work? My only concern is that I would have to use a common ground (I think). Basically, I would connect the ground wire from the generator to the ground side of my circuit-breaker panel. WOULD THAT SEND POWER BACK UP THE LINE?
Thanks,

No I don't think it would, but I'm near London England so I wouldn't hear the bang!
I would have thought it would be better to have one central switch to go between the two supplies. There must be some seriously heavy regulations about how you do it though!! Imagine what might happen if you and the electricity company both got connected together by accident. |
