Hi,

I want to plug a 3kw pool heater in to a socket in my garage. The garage is on a mk B16 mcb in the main fusebox, which is on the rcd side. The only other device on this circuit is the pool pump which is 55w. The garage circuit is a single 2.5mm2 twin and earth cable that runs for about 15-20 feet and is terminated in the garage by a fused box (not fusebox)

This wiring was present when i purchased the house.

Problem: when i plugged in the heater, the mcb made an awful humming/buzzing noise and eventually tripped. (happened after about 2 hours) but did not throw the rcd.

The manufacturer of the heater says it is suitable for plugging into a normal socket.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Gary

All sorted. The neutral wire in the Mcb was not tightened and was very loose. Checked all the connections and it works fine now.

Cheers Gary
