My wife uses this expensive Mobil 1 synthetic oil in her Ford engine. She says she can wait longer before she changes it. Is this true?

Synthetic oil doesn't last longer, it should still be changed as per your service recomendations, moisture gets into the oil through natural processes thus needing to change the oil regulary along with a good flushing oil at change. most cars change oil at aboult 10,000 miles however my car recomends 7.500 miles or 6 months which ever comes first. some cars alow for even longer than 10,000 but this i believe is not good for the engine. however synthetic oil can be run alot hoter and harder than regular oil thus it is much more effective on faster higher performing cars but we are talking high performance, even my impreza turbo 285 bhp only uses semi-synthetic as the need for synthetic is out balanced by regular changing of oil. so the answer to your question is no it doesn't last longer because of the moisture that acumilates in the engine after time.
