I have a Mira 415 shower which has started dripping when it is turned off.

It's been in use for about 12 years and this is its first problem.

I've purchased a new Cartridge (Grey Part No 902.91) and fitted it without a problem.

It doesn't drip any more but it makes a tremendous drumming and thumping noise just at the point it is adjusted to the correct temperature.

(My wife isn't too impressed as the shower is above the bedroom and I get up for work at 6:30 am)

I've removed and refitted it a couple of times to prove to myself that I didn't make a mistake fitting but it still makes a noise when you set it at a the required warm mix temperature.

Initial turn on at full cold is fine and red hot gets past the point where it sounds like a train running through the House.

I've refitted the old Cartridge, which although dripping is nice and quiet.

I'm fairly sure I've got the right replacement Cartridge as the part number was out of the booklet left when the shower was installed.

Old and new look the same except the old Cartridge is set by turning it off initially to a hard stop which is internal to the Cartridge whereras the new cartridge has an arrow to align to the cols side prior to fitting. I presume this is a change in design through time.

The Cartridge is fitted the correct way round (Hot to hot side etc) and if the alignment arrow is not set correctly it switches on hot and then gets cold as you turn it on more. So that isn't the problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated ?

Have you asked Mira.

I am trying to remember whether the 415 is a pressure balancing model.

When you turn the temp knob anti clockwise, does the sequence go cold / warm / hot or the reverse?

Did you change / clean the inlet strainers / inlets when you changed the cartridge?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes it is the pressure balancing type, but it is earlier 415 which doesn't have inlet strainers/cleaners.

It does have check valves in each inlet though.

Thanks

On the loaded side of the check valve is a filter.

You have the right cartridge, and I assume the fitting instructions, otherwise I could email a copy.

Have you tried turning the cartridge over, and what happens if you do.

A call to mira technical is probably the way to go otherwise.

Thanks

I try it the other way round and see what happens.

Might phone Mira first in case they have any other ideas.

Will let you know what the outcome is.
