I have recently removed a crusty old light from my flat with the intent of changing it. When I disconnected, I found that there were 3 separate lines coming through.

One contained a black and red wire, one had the standard 3 wires and another had a blue, red and green wire. The red/black cord had electricity running through it even with the switch off.

It seems that one line (black/red) was bringing electricity from the whole left side of the flat and needs to be connected via the light and rerouted. I can't get the combination right as it either trips out the circuit or the dimmer light works in opposition to the other lights in the flat - ie turning one on dims the others and vice versa.

How do I connect them all so that the light works independently from the other lights, but still completes the circuit to allow the other lights to function - and only using a mini plastic junction box?!

Please help!!

Normally the three reds go together on there own, the two blaks go together and are the neutrals and the black/red is the live to the fitting.

Thanks for that - I will give it a go. I did have major trouble trying to get 3 wires in 1 connector though.

Just to clarify as I didn't explain it well before - the live line bring electricity to the room has 2 wires, 1 red + 1 black. I haven't been able to work out what all 3 separate cords are though - 1 is direct from the main junction box (black + red), 1 is from the switch, and I don't know about the other one.

I'm happy to hear any other suggestions you might think of.

Thanks again!

all reds go together(not into the light fitting)
the black that comes back from the switch is the live to the light
the 2 remaining blacks go together and connect to the neutral of the light.
