I have just been charged to a small fortune to have a light fitting put up....the problem is that now the dimmer switch and light are buzzing, if on any thing but full. The light fitting is from Argos and does not state that it is incompatible. The electrician said there is nothing that can be done.I love dimmed light in the evening.....is he right. Please advise me.I would be very grateful |

hi there anna,
thanks for posting.
Unfortunately, ask the electrician is not currently active.
However, it has been my experience that dimmer switches do generate some buzzing when set to anything but full.
NOTE:
We hope to have all these forums running in the next few months so please check back with us soon. |

Hello Anna.
What type of lamps do you have in the fitting? if they are low consumption
fluorescents they cannot be dimmed.
Otherwise how many lamps do you have and what wattage? If it is a multi lamp fitting perhaps you are overloading the dimmer, try taking lamps out just leaving one and see whether the dimmer buzzes then.
Do not understand when you say that the fitting too buzzes, please let me have more details, number of lamps and wattage. |

Hello Dan.
Replied to Anna, apparently she had a 10 lamp fitting using 12v decroic lamps, which of course require a transformer, this is the reason for the buzzing in the fitting. Not suitable for dimming with that type of dimmer.

If you change the dimmer to one suitable for inductive loads then the noise will dissapear.
