I have not tried that one yet. If it works, Where could the problem possibly be? I know the printer works on the main computer.
I shall try your suggestion presently. |

Just the way I think sometimes.
If it wont play ball then stick it on the computer and forget the network, that will prove the connection and printer is ok so you may be able to work backwards, and add it to the network after its installed. |

So far I have insalled the printer directly to the second computer. When I plugged it in, the computer recognised the existance of the printer and gave the message 'ready to use. Still no print. I changed the cable and I reinstalled the port setting. Nothing works.
The printer is back on the main computer and it works OK.
I am confronted with a mystery. The printer seems to only want to work with the main computer!!! I suppose I shall solve it one day.
Thank you for your help. |

| it's not something silly like you have not made that printer 'default' and so when you print it tried to print to a file of something ? |

The printer is an 'Epson Stylus Photo 890', and the O.S. is XP Home.
To Dan: The printer does not function either in the network or directly from the second computer. It functions only from the main computer to which it is connected.
I mentioned earlier in this forum that the same problem occurred when I tried to network with a previous computer which has now been replaced by a new computer. The main computer remains the same. I am not sure if this has any significance. |

Does everything else network wise work ok between the two pc's?
If you are only using network cards/adaptors, have you used a 'x'over cable?

Internet & email work well. I have not shared files as I have no requirement for that.
I am not sure I know what you mean by 'X' over cable. The two computers are connected via a cable between both network adapters. In that respect, I have tried two cables with the same result. |

Tis my opinion that you should forget the network for now and get the printer working on the satelite computer.
I think you will find the second stage will resolve itself |

| are both printers showing up on both machines, with the hand under them and have you installed the drivers on both of them since you are not file sharing |

| Yes, both machines show printers with hands and yes the driver was installed. |
