My windows media player (version 9) running on windows XP seems no longer able to play files from an audio cd disk (.cda files). It still plays .wav etc files though. I had a problem with some corrupt files not so long ago that had to be deleted. I'm thinking some of these files may have been to do with supporting .cda - codecs and were deleted at this time. The option to use the player as the default player for .cda files is selected in 'file types' within the tools menu. I've selected 'autodetect proxy settings' on all options.
I've tried the following without success: installed version 10, downloaded and run a hotfix from microsoft (that replaced a missing .dll file), installed service pack 2. Here is the error message I get ....
'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.'
Any ideas? |
