I have just bought a second PC which I have networked with my old computer. The old computer is connected to the internet. Everything works well : internet, email etc. The only thing that does not work is the printer. I cannot get the printer to work from the new computer (secondary computer). I have re-installed the network link several times with no success. The printer works well from the original computer.
What could be wrong?
Thank you for your input.

| Don't you have to share the printer if you're going to use it on a network? |

When you used the network setup wizard, did you turn on printer sharing?

Yes I did turn on printer sharing. I went over the steps in the Network Wizard very carefully. I looked at all the possible diagnostics and everything is 'enabled'. The same problem occurred previously when I networked the main computer with another computer - no printer.
When I attempt to print, the message that appears is: 'This document failed to print'. It then gives the name of the printer.

what are you using to network the computers ?
...and are both computers definately on the same 'WORKGROUP' ?
to check go to the 'control panel' >> 'System' >> 'Computer Name' (if using windows XP

I am using a nerwork adapter and cable. Both computers are on the same workgroup.
I have checked everything I can think of and I always find that all is OK but still no printer.
Thank you for your input. |

how did you 'add' the printer to the new computer ?
i presume that you selected 'network printer' and then 'browsed' for the attached printer ? |

| I clicked on 'share printer' where it asked for my choice. |

| I believe I should have replied 'yes' to Dan's question. I browsed for the 'attached' printer. |

| Yes there is a hand under the printer to be shared. Also yes, both machines are on. The system would not work otherwise. |

Thanks for your advice. Although I have gone through the network installation process very carefully several times, I tried once mor at your advice while disabling the firewall. Still no printer access by the secondary computer.
I am beginning to suspect a problem with the USB connection although the printer works alright from the primary computer. Does that induce any ideas? |

| Have you tried installing the printer direct to the computer without the network. |
