Hi All,

Over a year ago I pulled up all the old laminate flooring in my house and all roung the skirting were little tacks that the fitters used to hold the beading in place. Is this normal or is there any other ways to hold the beading?
If this is usual procedure, what type should I buy and what are they called?

Secondly, is it really necessary to use cork expansion strips, if you leave enough room?

And lastly, will it be ok to cut the laminate with a jigsaw or will that shred the wood to bits?

Regards & Thanks for any advice & tips

It is normal to tack the beading as it allows the floor to move(expand and contract). If you glue or mastic it, it cant move.
Cork stripp is not a requirement.
To cut the flooring with a jigsaw get a blade that cuts on the upstroke, the same as is used for kitchen worktops.

I know that this is an old posting from early summer last year, but wanted to share my thoughts and "experience" on this subject.

Having installed numerous laminate floors I find that if you can remove the skirting before starting and leaving the required expansion gap, the skirting when replaced will cover the gap without the need for using beading. However, if you have skirting that isnt able to be removed, probably due to pipes or electrics fitted into them, then I found that using a good wood glue and gluing the beading directly to the skirting, allowed the floor to still expand underneath. Overall tho...if you have kids or an aggressive hoover user in the house, I would probably try to tack the skirting in a few areas as well as gluing.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest Wink Razz Very Happy
