Is it legal to have an electrical outlet socket mpounted on a wooden panel (not surface mounted)?
I live in a block of flats and there is a vertical drainage pipe that runs through all the flats above and below me. It is in the corner of the kitchen and has been boxed off with a wooden cover - I have mounted a single socket and the switch for the cooker onto this wooden cover so that the supply wires are hidden (elsewhere in the kitchen there is trunking). There is clearance between the back of the socket & switch boxes and the actual cast iron drainage pipe.
It looks good and I did it carefully making sure that the hidden wires are all sheathed. Now someone says it's illegal but I need confirmation since I really would like to avoid ripping it out and reverting to ugly trunking. |

As long as the back of the socket is enclosed within a socket box, plastic or metal, then there is no problem.
