I was called to repair a roof over a swimming pool. Open cathedral ceiling two stories high. The roof consists of the main beams that support the whole thing, two layers of 5\4 tongue and groove planking, two layers of 5\8 particle board, ( this is not o.s.b. this is sawdust and glue.), then 1\2 plywood and shingles. My question is, why would they use particle board on a roof? could it be some sort of insulation? Do I have to build an air space between the layers for ventilation? there is a 4 ft. fan at the center point on the roof.
