Hi, I'm fitting sockets in the garage, which is sited about 30' from the house. Am I right in thinking I should connect armoured cable direct to an available fusebay on the fuseboard, then run the cable to an MCB in the garage? Or should the MCB be fitted in the house and the cable be fitted straight to the sockets at the garage end?
Also, would you advise a separate earth rod at the garage end?
Cheers

The Electricity Board reserves the right to be notified of any proposed addition to an existing installation, you would be well advised to contact them before commensing as they will need to test the supply, and check the installation after the install id completed.
Above ground cable over 3m will require a catenary suspension to fully support the cable, below ground would need to be 450mm min depth.

EVERY outbuilding requires its own means of isolation in the building so a fusebox MUST be fitted there.
The armoured cable should be correctly terminated with correct sized gland. The armouring is suitable for use as earthing conductor but the earth terminals provided in the gland kits should be used to connect to earth terminals in respective fuseboxes.
The glands must be secured to the fuseboxes. If this is not possible then the armoured cable should be terminated in an approved box and the installation continued in PVC twin & earth.
The main switch in garage should be a RCD device.
