Could one of you nice Electricians tell me what tests are done to electrical appliances to certify that they are suitable for use and get safety stickers on them for ie. kettles, tv's, microwaves, irons, computers etc. You see the stickers on plugs of aplliances in hotel rooms, offices, schools, etc.
I will be supplying some computers to a school and want to know what checks will be done Question

so as they are not refused.

All electrical appliances with the industry and where a third party are involved, e.g hotels, schools, public buildings etc have to be safety checked yearly.

Most electrical contractors can do these tests on site or in a workshop, it involves a physical inspection, replacing damaged cables etc and an electrical test.

New equipment will be british standard and subject to being installed by a competent person.

The tender would stipulate what was needed and any clarification should be directed at the School or Council thats paying.
(working closely with these guys usually pays dividends)

Just a few simple meter checks for faults, continuity, correct fuses etc.

being in the building trade ( plumber/heating ) we have to have all our electrical tools checked in this way to satisfy the HSA with a yearly inspection.

Most councils have a safety officer whom visits site from time to time for on the spot examination, all electrical hired tools and plant are required to have this check prior to any hire agreement, its all prety simple straight forward stuff.

Unless your supplying second hand equipment, which is required to be as new condition then I wouldn't have envisaged any problems.

As previously mentioned we do large contract work for the Councils etc and clarification is best put direct to the clark of the works, or the headmaster.
