Hi,

I'm completely baffled by this...

A few weeks ago, my house was hit by lightning. I have an entertainment center in the den that had a TV,DVD, stereo, surround sound receiver, etc plugged into a power strip. The TV, DVD, and stereo got knocked out, but the receiver was working fine after the strike.

The lightning also tripped a breaker in another part of the house. My breaker box wasn't mapped, and the breaker wasn't obviously tripped, so I ended up flipping the den breaker off and on a couple of times in the process. I think the receiver was on when I did this.

Now, the receiver will not turn on. There are three outlets on my den circuit, and it will not work in any of them. But everything else I plug into any of those three den outlets works just fine. So something's wrong with the receiver, right? Well, I can plug the receiver into any other outlet in the house EXCEPT those three den ones, and it works just fine.

I've checked the voltage in those outlets...no problem there. I've used a quick tester thing in the outlets, which says they are wired correctly. I've even replace the outlet by the entertainment center.

I've talked to both Sony and an electronics repairman, both of whom say that there's nothing wrong with the unit itself. But I sure don't understand how it can be "fine" and be the only thing that won't work on an otherwise functioning circuit.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Is there any sign of damage to the plug or socket that maybe causing a bad connections.

Alternative ! perhaps the recievers not happy to go back in there after being zapped by a millon volts. Cool

There is no obvious damage to the plug (it's not bent, no burn marks or anything), and I've already replaced the outlet.

The weird thing is that it won't work on any of the three outlets on the den circuit, but works fine everywhere else in the house. Yet everything else I plug into the den works like its supposed to.

try getting the unit to work in another socket, then run an extention lead from the den to the unit, just to see what happens.

Have you put a meter on the line to check the voltage coming from the plug. May not be outputting 110 volts....
