I'm laying tiles on the floor of a downstairs cloakroom and I need to know what thickness, if any, of weatherproof boarding I need to put under the tiles to stop movement cracking the grouting. The subfloor is part concrete, part floorboard. I've heard that it should be 18mm, but this will put the tiles higher than the wooden flooring outside of the room. Can I use 12mm board?

12mm would be fine if the floor is sound and you can get a good fixing.
