Not fantastic on working with pc's but I do like a dabble...A few months ago my new pc,( just out of warranty, of course), went fizz bang. The psu blew up, having an old one from a previous pc. I did a like for like swap. All was fine for a months, now when I turn on the pc it sometime mimmicks a police siren. Three or four attempts later it will start normally. Does anybody have any clues that would stop me throwing it away, my main intuition is the psu, but does anybody know what the siren noise is for and what is it warning me about?
Cheers guys

hi there,

a beeping noise from the PC at startup usually means that there is a problem with the system hardware, although not always.

did you disturb and components when installing your PSU ?

Check CPU and RAM to make sure they are secure.

hope that helps

thanks for responding Dan
Yup i checked all the componants and all is fine in that department. I'm just really curious about the siren noise. Like it really sounds like a police car and not just a normal beep you sometimes get. The problem is getting worse by the day. I'm getting scared of turning off the pc now thinking it will never start up again.
So I may never find out what the problem is.

cheers again

Im not really sure what this could be, it's hard because I don't know exactly what the noise sounds like.

The first thing that comes to mind is the noise a CD can sometimes make when it reaches read speed, this would also explain the "Siren" type tone, as the CD would speed up and slow down.

Try taking out any CD's and then starting up, also check there's nothing interfering with any of the fans, it's a good idea to occasionally open up your PC and get the vaccum cleaners long thin attatchment to give the fans a bit of a clean.
Failing that, im not sure

cheers sleepy
I actually found out the problem the other day.
The noise was coming from the pc's internal speaker. Sounding actually like a police cars siren. apparently this means the processor is overheating, but because it was doing it straight after boot up it could not be.
It was after all the psu the one i put in was not man enough for the job so a new psu was bought and everything is now tickatibo.
cheers again
