Professionals in the know can identify where blockages are located without cutting into pipes.

However there are some secrets that I reserve only for those attending our training courses!

me again!

I do/did have a fair amount of sludge in the system - I had to replace a small radiator recently as it had a perforation. I filled and drained down 4 or 5 times. At this time I fixed a fault in the mid poisition valve - the ball had gone out of shape I guess because of junk. The pipes (Hep2O) weren't more than brown inside - dirty looking rather than full of rubbish.

I don't *think* that the pipe is full of junk as it isn't far from the pump and value that I fiddled with recently.

Do you reckon that I'm probably wrong? If so, please tell me and I'll drain it again (saying goodbye to the new inhibitor!!) and take a look.

....If I have been daft enough never to have realised that this problem has been there from the start - which I guess must be possible - including the several commissioning engineers doing the range, is there likely to be something else?

From what you say there must be more pressure difference (in metres head) between the two pipe junctions I mentioned, than the vertical distance between the water level in the header tank and the top of the bend in the vent pipe over the tank.
One way to try to shift it would be to get mains wate down your feed pipe (fairly easy to get from the header supply. This will blast anything movable up the vent into the header. Can be spectacular - and give you a tank with a lot of nasty in it!
Are all the pipes Hep2O?
You can find a heavy scale baked on variety blockage by heating the pipe with a blowlamp (no, not plastic ones...). If it stays hot withwater moving inthe pipe, you've found an "insulated " (or empty!) bit. Takes a bit of practice.
