Hi
Can anyone advise me. I have arranged to have a gas supply laid into my house. I need to have a recessed meter box as the space where it is to be located would give resricted access if it were surface mounted.

British Gas have arranged for the supply to be done but tell me that I have to install the meter housing myself if it is to be recessed. Can anyone advise how best to go about doing this. It's a brick built house with insulated cavity walling (inner wall breeze block) should i just hire an angle grinder and cut the brick?

Any practical advice would be appreciated

must be sealed to the brickwork the pipe from your end must go through the spigot (provided) it must be sleeved through the wall earth bond should be visible from the meter Very Happy

Thanks for the tips.

The meter housing is now in place and B. Gas or should I say their contractors came and dug 3 holes and eventually managed to get their mole through. We were told that another company would come and install the meter. They came sat in their van for an hour then looked in the box and drove away. When we called them, they said that we were not "gassed up" so could'nt fit the meter, and that the original contractors would have to come back to do that.
"What a way to run a business" Thankfully the gas engineers that were coming to fit the boiler have put back the day they were coming for a week so maybe they'll get their act together in time to get the meter in and working before that.

The pipe into the building has to be sleeved but not neccessarly through the sleeve provided ( it can exit the box) before entering the building at another location.

Athough it vary's ?? from different areas the normal practice is to install the internal gas pipes before the meter is connected so they may do the tests required and check the installation has been installed by the book.

In other words if there's no pipe to connect too they could just refuse to connect the meter.
