Can I legally tap into the current reseese lights, in the kitchen, to connect a transformer to power cabinet lights ? This way, all light run off the same switch. Also, can I leagally mount the transformer on top of the cabinet ?
The current kitchen circuit is only at 40 percent utlization and the cabinet is about 7 feet high (top of cabinet) with about two feet between top and ceiling.
State: NY

Thanks

Code says that the kitchen has to have (2) 20A small appliance circuits. There is nothing saying that the undercabinet lighting can not be on the same circuit with the recess lighting. Watch the total watts so as not to overload the circuit. The manufacturers installation instructions will tell you where you are allowed to mount the transformer.

The manufacture does not give specifications on where to mount transformer

could try looking up manufacturer online as to where... it may need to be within certain distance. make sure there is adequate ventilation and it is accessible.
