am i right in assuming it means "vulkanised insulated rubber"
the term v.i.r is used for the old style of cable that is no longer used now but what is the proper name |

You mean V.R.I cables(vulcanised rubber insulation) also known as TRS (tough-rubber sheathed)

Hi everybody! I don't want to get off on the wrong foot - I'm not in any way contradicting Vince's definition of VRI, but VIR actually stands for Vulcanised INDIA rubber.
It is indeed the cable of old, the scourge of many a spark...... |

thats the stuff,it used to be installed about 40/50 years ago in conduit but got replaced with pvc single cables
ive used the TRS cable vince ,its used for the larger commando sockets |
