Good day,
Last night I was battling with a clogged drain/pipe that is the tie-in to the main drain from the kitchen sink and washing machine tub/sink. After I out in a load of laundry and it had run thru its first rinse cycle and expelled the water, I noticed that the water was not draining from the tub, and that there was an accumulation of water in my garbage disposal in the kitchen (next room). The line from the sink/garbage disposal and the line from the washing machine tub tie-in together to a large 5" (?) copper pipe that leads to the main drain exiting the house. After pulling off the traps in both sinks, and having to replace them because they were old and damaged, I tried snaking out anything I could, but nothing came out, and the (handheld) snake was only going in so far. I am assuming that the snake was only going as far in as the T joint would allow, and it wasnt being able to go around the bend in the pipe. In doing some more research and troubleshooting, I was able to realize that all the other drains, faucets, toilets, shower drains, etc were functional and drained properly into the main drain exiting the house, so I have to assume that the clog lies in the 5" copper pipe that joins the washing machine sink and kitchen sink together and connects into the main drain. Being the case, how in the heck can I get that drain cleaned out without contacting a pricey plumber to come out and tear apart my nice old copper pipes? Oh yeah, heres another twist. Because of a fitting problem, I was unable to reattach the j-joint underneath the washing machine sink. Wanting to see something, I decided to run the kitchen sink water and see what happened. The water drained right thru the open pipe in the washing machine sink. Because of this, I am also assuming that the clog lies in the connection pipe, as opposed to either one of the pipes leading to it. Or, becasue there is an open end without the j-joint, is that simply allowing the water to escape, therefore giving me a false reading. I need help. I though maybe I could Drano the clog gone, but I dont know. Please respond ASAP.
