I plumbed a new house in copper and when water is on anywhere in the house there is a glug, glug, glug noise in the system. I thought it was drawing water from the water heater and put a back flow preventer on it, which didn't work. Now, I'm thinking there is air in the system where I left an 18" stub of pipe for an eventual room addition.

I also just did a bathroom remodel on another property and that one is doing the glug, glug, glug thing also. Again there is a short length of pipe that runs out of a ninety and is capped, which could have air trapped in it.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
Steve

Does that sound like the glug glug of a water cooler when you pour water.
If so you have air in the system. If you suspect that extra bit of piping you installed, you could test the system for air by cutting and installing a tap at the highest point in the system where you thin the air is. Opening the tap slightly until water starts to flow will release any trapped air.

this is what we call a passive dead leg fit a ball o fix valve so you can realease the air and also saves you draining off again when you come to fit whatever it is your going to fit.
