I have a chronic problem with air blockage in my hot water baseboard radiators. I own an 11 unit apartment building with a 400,000 BTU Peerless Boiler. Year after year I try to "bleed" air from radiators that do not get hot.

This week I had a plumber "bleed" air from the boiler itself. I asked him about installing an "air scoop" on the system. He wasn't sure this would help. I still have radiators that are hot in the bathroom and cold in the living room in some apartments.

Can anyone help!!!

An air scoop fitted in a straight run of pipe around the boiler would certainly eliminate the air problem, but should also include a dosing pot.

To continually have air in the system you have, a leak or a bad design, these are the issues you should be addressing, the air is only a secondary issue.

Thanks for your reply. How do you detect and pinpoint a leak in the system. We can rule out a bad design because this problem cropped up just recently since we replaced a bathroom radiator in one of the apartments. Can this be causing the problem? If so how can we fix it?

Any help is appreciated.

Can't have it both ways, the problem has been there for years = bad design, or its new and you may have disturbed a joint which is leaking.
