We are nearly at the final stage of doing our house up but have 3 jobs yet to complete , the jobs are;

a)Get a wooden floor put in all downstairs.

b) Get skirting boards in where necessary in new extension.

c)Painting of walls & ceilings to all rooms downstairs and hall/landing all recently re plastered.

My preffered order is a) b) and then c) ,

the wifes and my sister prefer c) a) and then b) ie, painting first

I said OK I will put the question on the net and see what the professionals think so please advise.

You can't put the skirting on till the floorboards are fitted because the skirting sits on the boards.

You can't paint the skirting till its fitted.

You could however paint the ceiling, stick a miss coat on the walls and do the preparations.

Last thing is always the painting, covers a mulitude of sins as they say.

Thanks for your reply, sorry for my late one. My way of thinking was that no paint would fall on the new floor, although I accept the skirting boards have to be fitted after the floor. There again wife and sister pointed out that you don't want sawdust allover the newly painted walls and ceilings, looks like they win.

Regards

I thought they who must be obeyed wanted to paint first.

No problem with painting the ceiling first, but after you fit the skirting you then have to stop the joints etc which means a final coat on the walls.

The floor needs to be sanded to be finished so i would install everything first then paint. You can do all your prep, prime and fist coat before installation, but you will need to paint( touch-up at least) after everything is complete. As for sawdust on the walls, you have to clean the room anyway when all is said and done.
