| Hello! We have a high pressure sodium yard light and the bulb burnt out. We want to replace it but are unable to figure out the wattage. It is not written on the bulb nor the fixture. I have seen the statement online that you must use the wattage the fixture itself calls for otherwise the light will not work. Is this true? I can understand that if it was rated at say 70 it would be foolish to use a 150 watt but if it was rated at 150 and you put in a 70 that wouldn't be dangerous, but apparently it wouldn't work? There are so many different sizes available and they are way too expensive to buy to guess which one will work! How can I figure out what size we need?! Thanks! |

It should say on the control gear or ballast what size lamp it will control.

| thank you Vince. We have looked and cannot find it written there. Is replacing the entire fixture something I can do myself? I have NO experience with wiring whatsoever........... |

Then I would leave it to a pro, these fittings produce very high voltages |
