I had installed an Ariston unvented cylinder 3 years ago. That cylinder has now started leaking because of corrosion. I am totally at loss to understand how that could happen as it is armed with an anti-corrosion system.

My belief is that it was damaged on installation and has only just corroded sufficiently to start showing. My problem is made worse by not being informed it needed annual maintenance, which of course I did not do. Afterall, who services a hot water cylinder?

Model WRC-NSF.

Has anybody else had similar problems and what action can I take?

We have had several, the same model leak, one after a few mounths.

At the time I was convinced it's down to Self cleaning flux and not being hot flushed. Excess use of Laco flux is particularly damaging to stainless steel.

You could take issue with the manufacturer, as they may have had problems.

The annual service simply requires a safety check on the Prv, trv, overheat device, and expansion vessel, it would not have corroded the cylinder, normally your engineeer will do it for free when he does the boiler service, only takes a few minutes.

A word of warning doing the safety checks could cause a leak on the valves which would then require replacing.

Don't tell Ariston, they are not to know it hasn't been done as above.

Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately, my plumber has already revealed the lack of servicing to Ariston. I am not sure what the flux is that you refer to, but I am not aware of anything being added to the system for cleaning purposes

The protect system has been permanently on since installation.

I received a copy of an engineers inspection report, which only states "*Cylinder not covered* 3 years old - rotten! Have explained to customer"

As you can see, no more than I could have told him. The enginer was from RJL Heating.

I have now arranged for Ariston to send one of their own engineers. We will see what they say.

As i said the lack of servicing will not cause the cylinder to corrode.

The system protect is for scale buildup.

I have not checked the type number but I expect it is NOT a stainless steel type.

It is likely to be a glass coated ordinary steel inner tank with an electronic anti corrosion device.

This system has not been successful and there have been many failures. Often the corrosion protection was never connected to the mains. Its now been discontinued.

We have not had the situation properly explained to us. It sounds as if the OP has some insurance cover and the RJL engineer is a contractor for the insurance firm.

The manufacturer gives a guarantee on the inner cylinder of at least five years providing its been properly fitted by someone qualified to fit unventeds. They expect annual servicing but that would not have prevented corrosion assuming the protection system was powered.

Exactly where is it leaking from?

I have the same problem.

3 year old unvented system. Corrosion in teh coil is pushing hot water back into teh heating system. Pro Tech system.

No indication from the installer that I had to service teh boiler.

Didi you get a resolution from Ariston?

As I understand from a customer of mine Ariston will only consider attending warranty claims if the cylinder has been checked annually.

Proof of this is required by attending engineer.

I have just found out that my Ariston Cylinder Model WRC-NSF. has started leaking. It was installed three years ago and now it is rusty as hell, in fact I pushed my finger through the outer skin.

I understand that Ariston’s guarantee is 25 year, my next step is to contact Ariston directly. Can any body advise me of their contact details. Shocked
