i am in my training to be a heating engineer, some of my work requires i test the electrics. i haven done all of the test yet so i want to gather as much info on ther procedure as i can. what i want to know is how do i test :
1 insulation resistance to earth
2 earth continuity
i know how to test for polarity, and i think earth continuity is done with one probe on the earth and the other probe on any metal part i think, please correct me.
im just not clear about the insulation resistance test. |

Insulation resistance is done using an insulation resistance tester that will supply twice the design voltage (500v)
1 probe to earth and the other to the live and neutral.
Be carful of any electronics connected as it will fry them.

A standard multi meter will NOT be able to do an insulation resistance test
