ive been asked to replace an artexed ceiling to make it flat, i was wondering if anyone knew if there is anything i can use to level out the surface of the cieling in preperation to skim it flat again. would this create too much weight for the screws holding up the plasterboard? my prefered method would have been to tear down the atrexed plasterboard and replace with new and then skim but the customer has asked to keep the cost down.
any sugestions would be gratefully received

Hi worsley65
It's no problem to skim over artex. Simply scrape off the highest points, (DO NOT USE GLASSPAPER AS SOME OLDER ARTEX CONTAINS LOW LEVELS OF ASBESTOS), brush on 5:1 PVA and let dry, brush on 3:1 PVA and let dry, finally brush on neat PVA and allow to dry enough to be really tacky then skim over using two coats of multi-finish.
