And what height do you fit an room stat |

I was alo taught to put the stat a third of the way up.
Reason being if its high up only the top half of the cylinder will contain a decent volume of hot water. the lower down the colder the water.
Where as at the bottom your garuntee'd all the water above is at the set temp on the stat.
Unvented cylinders come with the stat roughly a third up; this must be for a reason.
Immersion heaters are a boost or a back up. Its quicker and cheaper to heat up just the top section of the tank (enough water for shower or bath) Economy 7 have the off peak imersion heater at the bottom but its billed at a lower rate and time does not matter as much so it can heat up a nice full cylinder of water. The booster immersion is higher up, again just to heat up top half of cylinder.
Id imagine room stats were set at the height they are due to the way that heat convects around a room let alone to save dear old granny smith getting on her hands and knees to turn her heating on.
Just my 2p and what i was taught |

Thats worth a tenner just to read it Yellowman
If the stat is set at 65c in the bottom 1/3rd, then the water above it will rise to 75c, Logical don't you think being as how the heat rises.
By the same token, and this is the good bit why isn't the room stat 1/3rd up the wall, when you're sat in the chair all the good heat is above your head. |

2 against one scruff- you lose!
1/3 of the way up, its written in the bible...
"THOU SHALT SLICE THAT HOLY FOAM NO LESS THAN ONE THIRD UP...AMEN"
the reason roomstats are fitted so high is to stop the cat upping the temp when your out |

If its not on battons condensation can form underneath the cylinder.
