Hi, recently had a new gas valve & circuit board fitted to a glowworm fuelsaver 35f. We are having problems with the boiler going off when the heating is on but the boiler runs ok when just heating the water. Also the casing on the boiler gets a lot hotter than it did before the parts were replaced. I have bled the rads, tried reducing the flow around the system and have emptied 4 of the 8 rads & found the water to be pretty clear. The plumber also replaced the thermostat in the boiler which he broke whilst fitting the above parts plus we had no problems with the boiler going off before. Any ideas please ?

As the case is getting hotter I think you should get him back to check it out, in the meantime use it with care just in case the case is leaking.

An CO alarm would be good investment while you're waiting

Hi, the plumber has been back and has tested the boiler . he says the temp on the inlet/outlet on the boiler is ok but the downstairs rads inlet & outlet are not at the right temp . He suggest sludge in the system ? Not sure about this as we did not have this problem prior to his repairs. Plus he wants to charge another £300 for the hire of a flushing machine. Thanks again

Have you check the system pressure and for air.

I would try balancing the upstairs rads down a few turns to see if the lower ones get hot.

Do you have any motorized valve on the heating

Will try turning the upstairs rads down. Not sure about the system pressure. Can I check that? Bled all the rads repeatedly. No motorised valve fitted just a simple open/close valve for either hotwater or heating.

Check the heating valve is fully open then and close the hot water one a tad.

Closed hot water valve a bit. Heating valve fully open. Boiler still going off. Would draining/refilling the system help if there is a possible air lock?
Aswell as the heating valve and the hotwater valve above the hot water tank(ex emersion heater) there is another valve above the pump which is half open. Not sure what its for.
