Is it safe to plug a laptop computer into an ungrounded outlet? I live in a rental unit in an old house and want to make sure I don't wreck my computer. Is there anything I can do short of hiring an electrician to "ground" an outlet?

If the cord to the laptop is only a two core cord then yes you will be ok.
