we have just moved into a rental home. we replaced the plug on our dryer (we found out the plug was a range plug instead of a dryer plug). now when we plug it up, the dryer shuts off after about 5 seconds. no circuits are thrown. what's going on? help me

The idea of making location compulsary was to avoid this situation, the forum is worldwide, we! are in the UK.

Alan may have a few suggestions later but as far as thescruff concerned a plugs a plug.

Thermal fuses spring to mind BUT having no idea where you are located further advise would be impossible. Sorry

Dryer's are pretty simple. Most thermal fuzes just blow but some reset. Make sure that all your lint is cleaned out. Remove the exhaust hose and look inside with a flash light (unplug). Check the filters... check the outside discharge. Use your head. If problem continues and your handy then have at it. Lots of time the manuals if not in the house can be found on line. Many times a wiring diagram is inside the dryer itself, possibly behind the timer area. In your case, you said you were renting??? I would get the landlord involved.

I had a similar problem with a dryer. The fault was traced to the door interlock switch being "a bit light". Everytime the dryer started the first "tumble" would knock the door and stop the dryer. Switch adjusted and the problem was cured.
