fobrien,

i'm not an expert on these things, but there are various methods you can use to remove or reduce spam.

  • Choose an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that actively helps to reduce spam (btopenworld for an example)
  • Minimise the places you use your email address at on the web
  • Outlook has a feature to filter any 'Junk' mail automatically
  • Search for a spam reporting site online where you can report frequent spammers

Hope that helps

I also noticed my Norton professional virus/fire wall programe has means to set various levels of spam alerts although they recommend a low level, the free programes I mentioned earlier stop pop ups, which is a bonus.

There are a number of spam-blocking programs on the market, it's a matter of shopping around and finding which suits your needs and budget.

I personally use a product called Coffee-Cup Spam Blocker (because it came bundled with some other software that I bought from the same company). It seems to work quite well and includes a neat function bounce spam messages back at their originators, with the aim of convincing them that your address is no longer valid

Why not download Opera Mail? - Its free and has spam filtering software included in it.

Its also far better and more stable than Outlook or Outlook Express will ever be.
