Hi i have another question, my dad has a Packard Bell Notebook Laptop, he has deleted the sound drivers by mistake. I have downloaded the drivers off the Packard Bell website and installed them but still they are not producing any sound. I have checked mute and all the obvious problems. Also been into to device manager to see if there are any exclamtion marks and there aren't any. Device manager says they are all working properly. Hope somebody can help.

If the above doesn't work for you, can you plug some head phones into the head phone socket in your notebook and see if you get sound out of it, then post result back here.

Right i've tried that and it doesn't work still. I've plugged earpones in and it makes a noise as i'm putting the phones in and i can hear like a very low hissing as though the earphones are working but still no sound.

So you followed the article to remove the digital option on your cd/dvd drive - can you reverse what it says in the article so that digital is on and attempt to listen to a CD using the head phone socket (it has to be a CD as the cd drive in your notebook is probably directly wired to the speakers as well as having an output to the sound processor on your notebook.. if you attempt to listen to an MP3 or similar then this connection is bypassed.

Right i think i've found my problem or one of them, tried the above with a CD and Windows Media Player came up saying that Windows is not Valid. I think this may be due to me having to use my neighbours copy of Windows when BT Remoted into my laptop and completely destroyed the hard drive. Therefore i had to re-format windows but my laptop didn't come with a disc it was pre loaded with Windows. I used my neighbours product key rather than use the one on the bottom of my laptop. I don't know what to do from here. I've tried putting the Windows XP disc in again and putting the product key from the bottom of my laptop but its saying that that is invalid now.

You can ring microsoft and ask them to re-enable your old product key so that you can use it again to either 1) install windows or 2) ask MS how to use your original product key.

Not a lot else I can help you with until windows is happy that the product key you used is legitimate, sorry Sad

I've realised what i have done, i put Windows XP Professional onto here but the product key is for Windows home edition which was originally put on the laptop. Just trying to sort it with Windows now. Probably end up buying a new Windows XP disc. Do u think this will sort my sound out?

I don't know if that will sort your audio out for sure - didn't you receive a rebuild dvd with the laptop? you should have some install media with it that will put your laptop back to factory condition.
