Ok this is my first post and it is an embarrising topic

One of my lights is smelly Embarassed When I leave the light on for any length of time is smells kinda fishy Embarassed In another room there is some green stuff that looks like it is running down the cable from the ceiling

Im sure thats not good.. Crying or Very sad


The house is an early 70s build.

You are very overdue a rewire. The green sticky goo is the plastisc cable insulation reacting with the copper and breaking down.
The fishy smell is normally a loose wire that is not tight in its terminal BOTH need to be rectified ASAP.

You should budget between 2-3k but prices do vary around the country.

We have only noticed this. And we have just sold our house, do you know, will this electical problem get picked up in the survey?

They may ask for an electrical inspection to be carried out if the surveyer picks up on anything.
