It must be a very small Orchard if you keep in a pot
Anyway back to Orchids yes you can but, this is where the problem starts, each genus has special requirements.
A good general compost is Osmunda fibre from Japan if you can get it, or bracken fibre.
Best to ask at your local garden center what they have first, and remember they must have good drainage so lots of crocks in the bottom of the pot.
Do a google for Writhlington School, they are fast becoming the leading authority on orchids. And they will be more than happy to help.
